While Milan is often the airport visitors to Italy fly in and out of, most of them never stop to visit this busy and modern city - and that's a shame. Milan's Duomo, or cathedral, is the symbol of the city with hundreds of spires all over its exterior. You can climb to the top of the roof to stand among the spires and statues, and get a great view of the city.

There are art museums in Milan as well, mainly focusing on the Italian Renaissance and Baroque periods, and a Leonardo da Vinci Museum of Science and Technology so you can explore another side of the master. Even if you're not an opera lover, you'll want to swing by Milan's La Scala Theatre, one of the most famous opera houses in the world, first opened in 1778.

And with all that out of the way, you can get down to business - the playing. Home to most of Italy's most famous fashion designers, Milan is a window-shopper's paradise. If you're a sports fan, be sure to see if the city's famous football team, AC Milan, is in town. And don't forget to save some energy for after hours, so you can enjoy Milan's famous nightlife.
